Christmas Quickie Prompt Call!

  • Nov. 4th, 2009 at 7:31 PM
Hello everyone!

Yes, it's a wee bit early for Christmas prompts.
However, the lovely [info]enchanted_jae had a marvelous idea...
And we shall need time to prepare.

So, list prompts you'd like to see for our Christmas Quickie Advent
We may or may not use them, but it'll give us a good idea what you'd like

So, don your thinking caps and let us know!

November prompt

  • Nov. 4th, 2009 at 5:53 PM
First of all, a very special THANK YOU to all of you who made our first annual Fluffy Halloween Fest such a fun success! Whether you contributed fic or artwork, left a prompt or simply commented on the entrants, we couldn't have done it without you, and we appreciate your efforts.

Following are links to the responses we received from the prompts, in case you missed any:

Interruptions pt 1 by [info]reikokatsura
Interruptions pt 2 by [info]reikokatsura
Wonders of the Forest by [info]alisanne
What a Night for a Knight by [info]enchanted_jae
Easier Than You Think by [info]alaana_fair
Candy Competition by [info]alisanne
The Ghost at the Ministry Ball by [info]fantasyfruitbat
The Puff Ball (...of HoRRoRs) by [info]androidiordna (Artwork!)

Second, the monthly prompt for November is LEAVES. Think of raking up a big pile of leaves and jumping in, or collecting colorful leaves for a school project. Perhaps the prompt will put you in mind of crunching through fallen leaves on a walk in a park or forest. Anything goes! Fic, art, drabbles, poems...whatever you're inspired to do.

So, I spent this past weekend here with the most amazing, gorgeous, warm and adorable people I could have hoped to spend a weekend with. There was much cosplaying and frivolity, games of Aurors and Death Eaters in the manor grounds at 2 in the morning, formal costumed dinner parties and running around in large twisting hedge mazes, scaring small children. It's definitely the most fun I've had for a long, long time and, as everyone else who has commented on it has already said, I came away from it feeling very emotional. In a good way. :D ♥

When I find out which pictures are ok to post, I will upload some.

In other Potter-related news, [info]dora_the_nymph introduced me to the Butterbeer Experience yesterday and played me the song "Chapter 34", which is about the chapter in Deathly Hallows where Harry is walking to meet Voldemort in the forest and talks to his parents asks them to stay with him. It nearly had me in tears, it's so gorgeous. As I was listening to it I was going through the scene in my head and imagining what Harry must have been feeling and I just... it left me with this intense, beautiful pain. I really can't wait to see that scene in film 8.

You can listen to the song here.

First you need to solve the puzzle I will link you to and provide a screencap. Then you need to tell me some way that item might be used for the DA. It doesn't need to be something in canon, it just needs to be something that they could feasibly do with it in relation to the group.

DUMBLEDORE'S ARMY: STILL RECRUITING!

Let's have a discussion

  • Nov. 4th, 2009 at 5:54 PM
Coz this community is almost dead XD....

So...Any one notice the pattern? with the avatar cycle?

Yangchen was a girl

After her, was Kuruk, a guy

Then Kiyoshi, a girl
.
Then Roku, another guy

So....Shouldn't Aang have been a girl ?

I know that that doesn't really have to be and the pattern could have been  just coincidence but still. What do you guys think?

Chat in HouseUnity on AIM? We're bored!
Thank you to the mods of [info]hp_fanart for your support and permission to post this!

Artists, does the idea of reading a piece of fan fiction that was inspired by your artwork make you squee with excitement?

Writers, does the idea of having someone illustrate a piece of your fan fiction fill your heart with fannish glee?

Then this is the place for you!

In each round here at [info]hp_art_tales, Harry Potter Fan Artists will have an opportunity to submit links to their art for writers to base a story around, and Harry Potter Fan Fiction writers will have an opportunity to submit links to their work for artists to illustrate.

We are not an exchange fest. Our intention is to provide a fun, low pressure, prompt based activity, only the prompts will be existing artwork and stories chosen by authors and artists willing to submit their work as the prompts!

The call for prompts is now open, and will run through November 29th! We are especially seeking artists who are willing to submit their work as prompts.

The official prompt list will go up on December 1st, and you can claim a prompt at any time from then until Round 1 closes. Completed pieces are due April 30, 2010, so you will have plenty of time to work. But if you're late, there's no need to worry, simply post your completed submission once you've finished.

Please go here for more information, and be sure to watch the community for additional information to come.

If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me, and I sincerely hope to see you there!

Slug Club: Wizarding Communications

  • Nov. 4th, 2009 at 12:49 AM

Activity: Discussion: Wizarding Communications.
Points: First comment 10 pts, Additional comments 2pts each.
Deadline: Sunday, 15 November @ 8 PM CST.

Communications are crucial for networking, so for our first November activity we will be discussing wizarding communication, including its advantages and disadvantages compared to muggle communications, ways it could be improved, ways it can be exploited, etc.

Some questions you can consider to start off: Muggles seem to accomplish a lot of their networking via that curious invention known as the "internets." Could wizards benefit from such a thing? Is it possible without "eckeltricity"? Are wizarding communication devices adequate for living in the "information age"? How could they be improved? Are they antiquated, and if so, why? Is security a concern? Do wizards have any practical way of communicating quickly across long distances?

Some communication methods you can consider include owl post, messages by patronus, charmed objects (DA coins/the Protean Charm), daily papers, portraits, the Dark Mark, communication via fire and apparation/transport via the Floo Network, but don't limit yourself to canon methods. I've seen some very inventive methods used in fanfics, and you can feel free to incorporate them in your comments.

Be sure to sign every comment with your name and house, and make sure you've signed the roster before the activity ends!
